Paddle Out for Whales 2012

National Whale Day is held annually in the whale watch capital (Hervey Bay) raising awareness of the many man-made threats whales face today.

This year the event will be held at Enzo's on the Beach. Paddlers are needed to send important paddle out message!
The Japanese whaling fleet had a quota to take 985 whales last hunting season but thankfully only 172 whales were taken out of that number! So 985 paddlers are needed to help show the world how many whales were at risk last hunting season.

How to Paddle Out?

It's as easy as 1-2-3!

1) Bring a flower and something to float on (surfboard/body board etc) to the beach in front of Enzo's on the Beach on the Esplanade in Hervey Bay

2) Head down to the information tents to register from 9:30am- it's free- and receive your instructions from event officials (please wait for the sound off on the beach before entering the water)

3) At 11am get ready to paddle out! Wait for the sound-off and take to the water to join up with fellow paddlers to form a massive circle then join in the 1 minute silence in the water where the symbollic flowers will be released

Can't Paddle Out but still want to take part? No worries! Non-paddlers will line the water's edge to release flowers from the shore and take part in the one minute silence.

Renew: Real Illusions Exhibition

From 18th May till 7th July at the Hervey Bay regional Gallery xxpect to see the most original, innovative and quirky objects ever, in this contemporary and perhaps controversial exhibition of artworks created using non-mainstream materials.

Artists from across the Wide Bay region and Queensland, as well as from interstate, have been selected to present their most unique and skillfully created artworks expressing a theme of their choice.
The only catch is that they must use predominantly recycled objects or ‘alternative’ materials as their media of choice.

This particularly entertaining showcase verges on the strange, if not absurd, in exploring a range of ideas and approaches to creating art.
